I have just confirmed your bug.
I can connect full screen without using the alternate box, and my alt
ctl enter does make it fullscreen, but when i attempt to connect
fullscreen WITH the alternate option checked off it does fail to
connect.
To further confirm and validate your initial thoughts, I can connect
using rdesktop -f from the command line.
