I believe it is a kernel issue as the overlay of xawtv also has problems
with large resolutions.

According to this:

This could be because of small buffers. It claims you can get bigger
ones when you add a mem=somethingSmallerThanWhatYouActuallyHave, but
then in my case the module won't load at all.
