This is surely a great idea, but this can be accomplished using tools that are in the default installation.
Instead of creating a new daemon to sit there idle for 1-2 months at a time and using memory when it's not needed (even if it's very small), we can setup a 'root' cron job to run a simple script that would make a dump of "lshw" "lspci -v" and "lsusb -v". These utilities do have to be run as root for all low level results. I could probably write a simple shell script that can run each of the commands, but I will need some help for doing an HTTP upload to an anonymous Launchpad dumping ground. I'm sure that can be done with a simple Python script, or using wget to do an HTTP POST to a certain URL. Any help or thoughts would be appreciated. Find attached to this comment the output of 'lshw' 'lspci -v' and 'lsusb -v' on my desktop box for an example. ** Attachment added: "hwout.txt" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/16684461/hwout.txt -- really needed daemon https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/227156 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
