Kubuntu 8.04 comes with OpenOffice.org 2.4 and that version doesn't support the
new Office's format ("Open"XML). OpenOffice.org 3 will come with that support
for both files .docx and .xlsx and some others files type, if you want You can
download Microsoft OpenXML support for OpenOffice.org by adding a patch: In the
attchment there is "odf_filter.tar.bz2", unzip it and get into the directory,
then type in the terminal: "
sudo cp OdfConverter /usr/lib/openoffice/program/" (without commas), then type:
"sudo cp MOOXFilter_cpp.xcu
usr/lib/openoffice/share/registry/modules/org/openoffice/TypeDetection/Filter/"
(without commas) and finally type: "sudo cp MOOXTypeDetection.xcu
/usr/lib/openoffice/share/registry/modules/org/openoffice/TypeDetection/Types/"
Also You can install OpenOffice.org 3 in your Ubuntu and OpenXML will
works out-the-box so this isn't a bug.
