Public bug reported:

Using the "network" servers option in gnome I had previously added a
samba share to my \etc\fstab file. The format of the sharename in
/etc/fstab was

\134\134garage\134james /mnt/james smbfs etc etc.

After the edgy upgrade "sudo mount /mnt/james" wouldn't work. The
backslashes had been removed from the /etc/fstab file i.e.

134134garage134james /mnt/james etc.

editing /etc/fstab so it reads

\\garage\james /mnt/james etc..

has fixed the problem for me, so there is an easy workaround.
