Can you please go to Edit/Preferences/Network Preferences, and:

(1) is it currently set to "Use system defaults"?

(2) if it is, can you reconfigure it to "Manual proxy configuration",
and re-enter your proxy data there?

I have just tried on my Evo (running 2.23.90 trunk), and -- after
setting Gnome proxy --, my Evo still went straight into Internet.

I then checked the gconf keys, and they are set to http_proxy=true (and
invalid IP addresses), so we sort of match on our configuration.
Restarting Evo did not produce any change in behaviour.

As such, for starts, I am re-opening this bug -- the fix does not seem
to have really fixed the issue.
