I believe I see the same problem. Mine occurs when I put "Patton" (the DVD)
into the
DVD drive when running Sun's virtualbox with windows XP professional inside.
The crash occurs on a second X server, started via ctrl-alt-F3 and
"startx -- :1".
But, in the end, it's X that crashes on Ubuntu 8.04. I attach the log file.
After the crash, the other X server (ctl-alt-f7) remains OK. Hitting
ctl-alt-F3 takes you back to the crashed server's console. Mouse works
on the other (:0, ctl-alt-f7) server, but the :1 server is dead, and terminated.
On the terminal, just before the backtrace, you got some lines which
may be relevant:
"expected keysym, got XF86kbdBrightnessUp: line 72 of pc
SetClientVersion: 0 9
"
