This bug is very annoying. A temporary workaround is to have a file open from that hard drive. This will make the system deny Amarok request to unmount the drive.
For example: if I play music from the USB HDD with another player (or watch a movie) and I close Amarok, the drive is NOT unmounted. This also suggests that there is no data loss on the drive when amarok is unmounting it, because no other app was using it anyway.
