Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Ubuntu 8.04.1
GNOME nautilus 2.22.3

REPRODUCING THE PROBLEM

1. Start nautilus.
2. Right-click any subfolder and select Create Archive...
3. Press Create.

Normally, this correctly creates an archive containing the folder and
all its files and subfolders.

However, if any of the folder's parent directories contains an ampersand
in the name, the creation fails. The exact failure depends on the
archive type chosen, as follows.

SYMPTOMS

.tar.gz, .tar.bz2, .tar.lzma, .tar
Reports that it cannot stat a file within the directory, where the file name is
the last letter of the directory name (e.g. "testing/g: Cannot stat: No such
file or directory"). The archive contains only the top directory without any
files.

.zip, .ear, .jar, .war
No error message (appears to work), but the archive contains only the top
directory without any files.

.rar
Works correctly.

.ar
No error message, but no archive is created.

WORKAROUND

Ensure that no parent directory contains an ampersand in its name.
