You can try another alternative which is implemented in Hardy. Do
sudo apt-get install ijsgutenprint foomatic-db-gutenprint Then change your printer's PPD file with system-config-printer. Under the model which you had already selected before, there should be driver/PPD entries with something like "foomatic + gutenprint" now. Choose one of them.
