Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: emacs

First, the display problem occurs independent of my init file--emacs -q
has the problem too. If I open emacs on a file or directory, it displays
the first few lines, then leaves a number of blank lines, below that is
more of the file. Control-L at this point doesn't fix the problem--it
just changes the lines that are shown as blank; typically the blank area
grows.

My video card is nvidia and I'm using nvidia glx non-free.

My system is ubuntu 8.04 updated to the latest version via the gui
update manager. Here are my emacs packages:

emacs/hardy uptodate 22.1-0ubuntu10.1
emacs22-common/hardy uptodate 22.1-0ubuntu10.1
emacs22-bin-common/hardy uptodate 22.1-0ubuntu10.1
emacs22-gtk/hardy uptodate 22.1-0ubuntu10.1
emacsen-common/hardy uptodate 1.4.17

My TERM variable is xterm.

emacs no-X works fine.

** Affects: emacs22 (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
