Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mythtv

After enabling mythwelcome by setting MYTHWELCOME=TRUE in /etc/mythtv
/session-settings, mythwelcome spawns an infinite number of times on X
startup. This continues until the system freezes, by which point only
magic SysRq or a hard boot are the only solutions. This issue disappears
when MYTHWELCOME is set to FALSE (or otherwise commented out) in
/etc/mythtv/session-settings.

mythwelcome works as expected when launched manually (from terminal,
.xinitrc or by editing ~/.config/autostart/mythtv.desktop).
mythtv.desktop had not been modified (i.e. exec=mythfrontend --service)
at the time when the problem occurred.
