Hi Sir George,

The via82cxxx driver is indeed disabled in Hardy:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/ubuntu-hardy/debian/config$ grep -rn
"CONFIG_BLK_DEV_VIA82CXXX" *

amd64/config:297:# CONFIG_BLK_DEV_VIA82CXXX is not set

hppa/config:137:# CONFIG_BLK_DEV_VIA82CXXX is not set

i386/config:118:# CONFIG_BLK_DEV_VIA82CXXX is not set

ia64/config:234:# CONFIG_BLK_DEV_VIA82CXXX is not set

powerpc/config:239:# CONFIG_BLK_DEV_VIA82CXXX is not set

sparc/config:171:# CONFIG_BLK_DEV_VIA82CXXX is not set

You can see the changelog note for when/why it was changed:

https://edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux

" * config: Disable IDE VIA driver in favor of PATA version
    - LP: #181561"

I know this doesn't really help with the issue you are seeing but it
provides some explanation. I unfortunatly am going to have to guess
that the 15 partition limit will not likely change unless it comes from
upstream. I'll reassign to the kernel team though for their feedback.
Thanks.
