Not compiz, or at least not the way Intrepid Alpha 3 uses it. Put on the three compiz updates from my preceding note, desktop came up fine. Ubuntu ran O.K. (for an Alpha).
Put on just the gnome 2 changes from my preceding note. Intrepid with Gnome 2 fails. Boot proceeds up to a brown screen, the cursor changes into a little whirly, then the whirly stops. That's it. No desktop. Nothing on the keyboard works except power off. The Thinkpad is a dual boot. I can boot up the other image, an Alpha 3, and look at any logs or messages on the dead Alpha 4 if someone has an idea what to look for. Early in this bug report I attached a few things I saw.
