Yesterday I just played a bit with the settings of the ati-drivers and found a solution which works. The command aticonfig --initial=dual-head gives a dual head setup with NO 3D support and this is where the tablet coordinates are screwed. With aticonfig --dtop=horizontal you can set up a big desktop mode where 3D is enabled and the tablet works flawlessly. Not sure if this report can be closed though.
