I have this same issue with the rtl8187 driver, its an ALFA, I get this error
only when /etc/init.d/networking restart
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~# /etc/init.d/networking restart
* Reconfiguring network interfaces...
grep: /etc/network/run/ifstate: No such file or directory
[: 164: 0: unexpected operator
grep: /etc/network/run/ifstate: No such file or directory
[: 164: 0: unexpected operator
[ OK ]

mountnfs has wrong path for ifstate (should be under /var/run)
