Sorry I could not respond sooner - I was away. I have noticed that in Hardy Heron, the black screen does occasionally appear for a brief second, but disappears right away, so this is no longer a problem! As for gutsy, I never did figure out the cause, but like most things around here someone did and put it in the newest version, continuing once more to make Ubuntu better :)
