Public bug reported:

Ubuntu Intrepid with linux 2.6.26-5-generic.

The system hangs at the step 'Configuring Network Interfaces' during boot, if 
no connection to Internet/Lan is available (e.g.: no cable is connected).
The system pauses at this step for 3 or 4 minutes, but then continues with 
normal boot (without internet of course).

This behaviour is annoying because, if you have a laptop and you want to
use it without connecting it to Internet, you have to wait a very long
time for the system to boot, and there is no way to stop the network
check if not by pressing Ctrl-Alt-Canc, which shouldn't be a good
procedure.
