Public bug reported:

When I go to a webpage and it says "Missing PlugIns" and download them,
it then asks if I want to install them. Even when I say yes and get a
confirmation message saying that the plugin (or program) HAS been
successfully installed, I don't have any idea where the new plugin or
program has been stored, why it doesn't work, or how to correct the
problem and be able to view the video or get any sound from it when I
click on the "play" symbol, usually a right-facing arrowhead.

Am totally lost and confused, especially since I am a complete newbie to
any Linux distro. Please keep this in mind if any of you can help.
Yes, I have read the Ubuntu 8.04.1 again and again under Video and
Sounds (I think) and searched for an answer for over a week or almost
two by no with no help or answers received! Am desperate for help,
please. Anybody who steps forward and at least trys to give me some
possible solutons/answers will be my hero and lifesaver before I go
completely insane. Nothing I attempt in Ubuntu's Hardy Heron seems to
work the way its own documentation says it should. I can't even install
my Brother Laser Printer or cable Ethernet modem!!

Thanks to all of you,

Craig Barnes
P.S. Hopefully, as I gain in knowledge and experience, I can and will help as
many members as I can. Promise.
