I've made a hardy version of libsane with Jim's patch which seems to
work for me
I have stored it in my ppa
you can download it by including my ppa as a source :
System->Administration->Software Sources->Third Party Software->Add-> ...
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/koen-beek/ubuntu hardy main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/koen-beek/ubuntu hardy main
