I think I got the same problem after upgrading from dapper to edgy.

/var/log/boot:
Starting MLDonkey: mlnet Could not guess $HOME environnement variable: provide
a --chdir or $HOME

Maybe the homedir of the user executing the init-script needs to be set?
I don't know how upstart works. Does it have an own user?
~root is set on my system.

mldonkey-server does not startup at boot time, eventhough I selected this at
installation time.
