Although I have not had a problem installing from and versions of the install CD, I have had this error with squashfs. I am using it for a running system, with aufs, so that the OS is reset to its original form after each reboot. Most of the time it is fine, but sometimes I get this error with a particular build of my system. If it works it will always work, but if I build one that comes up with this error, it always fails. The weird thing is that if I mount the filesystem via loopback on my normal system, it appears to be fine. Could this be a problem with the version of squashfs used in 8.04? Has it changed since 7.10? Unfortunately I can't find anything in common with the versions of my system that don't work, as opposed to those that do. I shall dig further...
