Just the other day I configured a display on a Mac. (OS 10.4.11)
It failed to pick up my monitor automatically (Just like Ubuntu, CentOS and
Untangle)

It did, however, have a useful control panel tool called display.
This little app let me scroll down a loooong list of possible resolutions and
refresh rates.
I picked the one I wanted, it offered me a 15 second-no-reponse-back-out that
required me to click 'OK' and it worked perfectly.

This is all we need:
If: you can't do it automatically, Then: let us pick the one we think is right.

Definitely Not:
If: you can't do it automatically, Then: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
