Another pattern I've noticed, at least with the current kernel:

If I start up my laptop disconnected from the dock, I find that even if
I later connect it to the dock, I don't get the lockups. Just something
that might be worth noting in terms of trying to reproduce the crash.
Note that I am still using the "libata noacpi=1" thing I described in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/218760/comments/21 - I have not
tested it yet with that option disabled.

Of course, given this bug's track record, this workaround will probably
be broken in a few weeks.

Anyway, I'm going to make an attempt at compiling the 2.6.26.3 kernel on
this system. Here's hoping that this will help ...
