Leann, forget my previous e-mail:
I googled for " linux-image-2.6.27" and understood that by "package" you
mean apt-get install etc.., so I downloaded and installed the package, then
manually added an entry to menu.lst.
The result is that YES, sound now works... I suppose you can mark the bug as
fixed in 8.10.
Unfortunately with this version I have video problems and the wireless
adapter is not detected (among other problems), so I had to uninstall it and
go back to the original. Hopefully this test will have left no trace, and
when 8.10 is automatically installed by the update manager I will finally be
able to enjoy sound in Ubuntu.
