Reloaded Synaptic 28 August & didn't see linux-image 2.6.27. I'll try it if I can find the package.
I'll try the CD image when it is available Thursday Sept. 4. Note that Xubuntu Alpha 4 runs fine, Kubuntu Alpha 4 runs fine, Alpha 3 Ubuntu runs fine. Ubuntu Gnome 2 causes the freeze when it tries to load the desktop. Do you think Gnome 2 loading the desktop uses the kernel image differently than KDE or XFCE, both of which can load the desktop just fine?
