My point wasn't wether the user would or not want to install mp3
support. It's the fact that even when the user does install mp3 support,
he/she has to point audacity to a shared object which does not have the
same filename (or indeed, the same file extension) requested by the
program, and so that file is filtered from the file selection dialogue.

Don't know if this can be considered a bug, but maybe it can be
considered a problem with the ubuntu compile of audacity, since it
doesn't look for a support file where that file is located on a ubuntu
system.
