Since reporting this bug, I have conducted further investigation. The bug exists in the/any new linux kernel. It is the result of the v4l-dvb->saa7134->ir-kbd-i2c module. This module is supposed to provide for i2c remote controls, as opposed to gpio remote controls. It has never worked properly, and now it doesn't work at all. Hence, no saa7134 i2c remote control works at all, and these remote controls fill logs with "unknown key pressed" messages unless the specific card's remote control is disabled in the source code. No-one at video4linux or linuxtv is interested, and I don't have the necessary i2c gear to repair this module. Thus, it is not specifically an ubuntu bug, it is a kernel bug, and will continue with each new kernel version.
