Concerning 1)

It is the same problem as before. I must run :

rmmod psmouse
modprobe psmouse

before the touchpad is recognized as touchpad and not as psmouse. Having
done this, when I restart X (kde), the touchpad works as it should with
all the special features.

(This can be done at boot. When I come to kde login, I rmmod and
modprobe psmouse and restart X (ctrl-alt-backspace). Then it works.)

I run Hardy, upgrade since dapper.
