The wireless network was working and is still working after the latest
kernel-upgrade. (Most likely the driver I compiled
a month or three ago is still valid?)
I'm working with kernel uname -r -> 2.6.24-19-generic
and installed the backport-modules

--> I don't have a clue if I'am already working with the latest drivers (from
the backport-modules or not). I will certainly test
the newer kernel 2.6.27 (if it comes available by the regular updates ... ).
I'll cross my fingers! (but before updating, I'll will download the latest
driver from serial-monkey (I'll will only compile and install this driver, in
case the one supplied by the
backport-modules should fail).
