I'm not sure why this happened to me, but I just tried it again today,
and the password dialog appeared and I connected just fine, even though
the version of all the packages I mentioned appears to be the same.
Since it works now, and the packages haven't changed, I'm going to close
this as pilot error. Sorry for the false alarm.
