Here's the log. It's from Mint Linux KDE, since I don't have access to a
Kubuntu installation, but I have tried Kubuntu 8.04.1 in the past on the
same machine and happened the same bug.
I can't see anything wrong in the log.

Can you ssh into the system and retrieve the /var/log/Xorg.0.log while
it's hung? The error message may be shown there. (So far we don't
have
enough information to begin troubleshooting on this issue.)
