Bug observed in kernel 2.6.24-19-rt (ubuntu hardy).
Due to a known bug, it is impossible to have all the trackpoint features
of an ALPS trackpoint/touchpad device available when the touchpad is
enabled. Therefore I recently disabled the touchpad of my Thinkpad R61i
in bios in order to be able to enable the "press to select" feature of
the trackpoint, using (as root of course):
echo 1 > /sys/devices/platform/i8042/serio1/press_to_select
The first time I did this it worked fine and I was able to use the press
to select feature. However I then had to reboot, after which I could not
repeat this command. I then rebooted again, but the same thing happened.
The error message I have been getting is
bash: echo: write error: Invalid argument
I even tried doing "echo 0 > ..." (0 being the value already stored in
press_to_select) but I got the same error message.
What ought to happen of course is that you should be able to toggle
press-to-select on or off using echo or equivalent.
