I think you are confusing symbolic links with 'links' in Windows. The two concepts are very different.
Have a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Symbolic_link for a brief explanation of symbolic links in Linux. Symbolic links are meant to operate completely transparently to the applications that are using them, and are a feature of POSIX operating systems. A lot of things rely on the functionality provided by symbolic links, and you couldn't just change the behaviour of them. If you want an icon on your desktop that behaves like a Windows shortcut, then you need to right click and create a new launcher as opposed to creating a symbolic link. If you wanted a launcher to point to /home/foo/bar, then the command required in the launcher would be: nautilus --no-desktop /home/foo/bar I'm closing this bug report as it doesn't really describe a bug. Thank you and feel free to report any other bugs you find. ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- Opening a folder link should show the path to the folder https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/263012 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
