This also happened to me on 8.04 with the Blackberry 8830. Whenever I would connect the blackberry in mass storage mode, udev would munch cpu like crazy and report lots of device adds and removes via network manager in the syslog. This occurred with a device password enabled, which also requires entering the unlock password on the blackberry when it is plugged in before enabled mass storage mode.
When I took the device password off, it seemed to no longer cause this problem.
