Public bug reported:

The HDF package as built clashes with libnetcdf4
This causes a problem with packages that require both HDF and netcdf installed,
eg. gdal-bin, also GMT and grass.

Some details at.

Also see a bug report I submitted to the GDAL list.
http://trac.osgeo.org/gdal/ticket/2551

Essentially I am trying to use the standard apt-get install method to allow me
to use the "gdal-bin" package along with "grass" etc.
If I start from clean and install gdal-bin, the package dependencies that I get
provided give me HDF and netcdf that are incompatible.

The packages I get are...

libgdal1-1.5.0 1.5.1-3
gdal-bin 1.5.1-3
libnetcdf4 1:3.6.2-2
libhdf4g 4.1r4-21
libhdf5-serial-1.6.5-0 1.6.5-5.2build1

"lsb_release -rd" gives...
Ubuntu 8.04.1

** Affects: libhdf4 (Ubuntu)
