Thank you very much!!! What a wonderful service you provided to me! This seemed to work. I set the time up to 30 minutes and on blank. It seems to have solved the problem. I really need to consult with someone who can help me with a few small problems I have with Ubuntu. Can you suggest where I can get that help. Basically I would like to ask questions by email and get a few answers. I do not seem to be able to do this very well using the online chat room type. I just do not know how to use them. I love Ubuntu. I have been using it more or less exclusively for almost one year. I rarely have to use Windows now. I have promoted to several other people who are also very happy with it. I have also installed it on the computers in my Church. Besides the small little issues which I can not seem to solve, I have a project I can not do without serious help. I would like to install Ubuntu on a large "thumb flash drive" which is plugged into a USB port. Then I would like to be able to run Ubuntu and have most of my data available on any machine with a USB port. It should run right from the flash card without touching or using the hard drive. I would expect to run very fast with no moving parts. It could even run on computer without a good hard drive. Do you know of any way to do this without being a real computer whiz? If you run "gconf-editor" from the Terminal, and browse to apps / gnome- screensaver, what does "mode" say? Try setting "mode" to "blank-only" and see if you can get back into the screensaver preferences. Also, what video driver are you using?
