It seems you did the right thing by essentially deleting the corrupted
file /var/cache/apt/archives/linux-
image-2.6.24-19-generic_2.6.24-19.41_amd64.deb and redownloading .
There really isn't much else that can be done if the file gets
corrupted. Thanks.
