It seems that there is problem /etc/mysql/debian.cnf:

Aug 30 10:19:27 trpeyiscfpp-laptop /etc/init.d/mysql[5102]: 1 processes alive
and '/usr/bin/mysqladmin --defaults-file=/etc/mysql/debian.cnf ping' resulted in
Aug 30 10:19:27 trpeyiscfpp-laptop /etc/init.d/mysql[5102]: error: Found option
without preceding group in config file: /etc/mysql/debian.cnf at line: 1
Aug 30 10:19:27 trpeyiscfpp-laptop /etc/init.d/mysql[5102]: Fatal error in
defaults handling. Program aborted

Did you change /etc/mysql/debian.cnf ? Could you post the content of
this file with the value of the password options removed/changed ?
