>From the Article in "le Temps" > Ubuntu est un logiciel libre - il est donc gratuit.
D'OH! <rant> Again someone (or some "Redacteur") confusing the mixing up the meanings of free as in "free beer" and free as in "free software". Even worse: Frech - in contrast to english - actually _has_ different words for the two meanings: "libre" and "gratuit". It's plain _wrong_ to present one as the consequence of the other. Ubuntu is "gratuit" _and_ "libre" - but it's not "gratuit" _because_ it is "libre". It is gratuit because Canonical wanted it to be. Free software does not necessarily have to be gratuit. Why just doesn't this fit into people's minds? </rant> My french isn't good enough - someone willing to write a "letter to the editor" at LeTemps? regards Marc -- Ubuntu-ch mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-ch
