Sounds like this won't be happening officially until Lucid.

You can create your own EBS boot Karmic AMIs by copying and pasting the
steps in this article I just published:

This is based on the vmbuilder tool and kernels used by the official
Karmic AMIs, but my steps add a few conveniences which are not available
in those (e.g., multiverse, EC2 AMI tools, runurl).

Another approach would be to simply download the official Karmic EC2
image and burn it onto a volume, snapshot it, and register it as an EBS
boot AMI.

Would you be interested in a "howto" on that process?
