Well I filed the bug so obviously I'm in favour. Test it like this: I change my def. app from firefox to epiphany. Everything changes: when i click on links anywhere in gnome, epiphany pops up. But when I click on the panel, I get firefox. The whole point of having the preferred applications preference tool is so that the user doesn't have to do the work to change from one browser to another, or one email client to another. It kinda contradicts that to make the user remove and add the icon on the panel. What the preference tool does already is really useful, but it would be more professional if it went the whole hog, and changed the panel launcher too.
