Welcome Friend... serve the Humanity :) Ubuntu is really a very fine tweaked and easy distro available. If you want to be the part of these communities, you can, its Open. Really its open, u wont find any Doors, Locks and Windows in Linux. So, you can enter from anyway, any direction. I too am concerned with Linux GUIs, though Linux UIs are much improved, but you know, nothing is perfect. Currently writing UI improvements in Nautilus to step towards perfectness. :D One thing i don't like in Ubuntu is, Browns and Oranges... I mean theme color. If it remains for some more releases, i will be color-blind.
