I used to use hibernate a lot, even though it was slow like mentioned
in the original email, it was a nice way to save state. Handy when
on airplanes.
I am "just" an end-user who supports various other people. What works
for each computer varies, but /seems/ to be related to the drivers of
their respective video cards. I've internally known suspension and
hibernation to be buggy, but they're usually consistently buggy.
Meaning, that when I first set someone up with an Ubuntu install, I see
which version, if either, works. I then plainly tell them to use one or
the other.
For what it's worth, the folks in my office seem to use suspend.
Personally, since my laptop is usually off only during trips to and from
the office, suspend is much nicer because it's gobs quicker.
As a side note, if hibernate could be a bit smarter about writing the
ram to disk, I have a hunch it could be made faster as well. However, I
imagine that's outside of the purview of this list ...
Cheers,
Kevin
