Different Robert here, I don't speak for Mr. Ancell but my interpretation of his statement was that we need to take the Ubuntu Core Apps (phone apps) and make them desirable to use on the desktop: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu-phone-coreapps These apps *already exist*, so it's not like Robert was suggesting writing all new apps from scratch.
