There was a tray applet that monitored how many reboots you had left and let you postpone the fsck on boot. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=295262 or http://www.debianadmin.com/bonager-the-boot-scan-manager-for-your-ubuntu-desktop.html However, a comment in the forum says it's no longer developed. I tried it a while back and it worked fine, but I've got a fast laptop and didn't bother to install it when I upgraded.
