Hi Developers,

The Linaro and Launchpad team are rolling out the native work items
capability in Launchpad this week. For more details on this cool new
feature, see the attached email. This is going to enable lots of
interesting new capabilities going forward (launchpad team has usability
studies and prototyping currently in progress), so more announcements
on this subject will emerge over time.

For the 12.04 LTS "Precise Pangolin" release, the Ubuntu project
will continue to use the traditional whiteboards until we finish up the
active tracking of the release.

New blueprints in Q release will be using these new native workitems
for tracking. ( We will do any necessary transitions of existing
blueprints, prior to starting UDS). For those teams who want to start
planning the blueprints for Q, feel free to use the new native
capability for capturing the new work items. Please provide feedback
to the launchpad support team if there are any concerns in using the new
system. We'd like to get this as solid as possible before UDS.

Thanks for your help with this transition.

Work items in Launchpad
------------------------

A few days back, I emailed you about how Linaro have been adding native support
for work items to Launchpad.

I also mentioned a migration for existing work items. The migration of Ubuntu
work items will go ahead after the release of 12.04 LTS and we'll set the date
in collaboration with the Ubuntu Engineering team.

However, you will see a new work items text box appear on blueprint pages over
the next day or so. If you ignore it, nothing else changes for now.

What to do with work items
--------------------------

The new work items text box works just the same way as work items in the
whiteboard. We've updated status.ubuntu.com to read work items from both the
whiteboard and the work items box.

So, if your team wants to start using the work items text box, nothing will
change. Similarly, you can carry on using the whiteboard without losing
anything.

Why have we made this change?
------------------------------

Before now, Launchpad knew nothing about the detail of work items: it saw them
as no more than text in the whiteboard.

Now that Launchpad can parse work items, it can start to do interesting things
with them. For example, within time you'll be able to get a view of all the
work items and bugs assigned to a person or team for a particular milestone.

Thanks to Linaro for adding native work items support to Launchpad!
