I think it is much easier to maintain Wayland stack in Ubuntu than port all DEs we support to Mir. As I can see from this thread, the “common” components used by flavors that will be patched to support Mir are Mesa, Upstart and LightDM. In Mesa, it will be just an addition of a new backend — that shouldn’t break anything. Speaking about Upstart, it should be able to start Wayland, Mir or X11 based on the system configuration — this is probably going to be implemented anyway to support two versions of Unity in Saucy.
