I found that disabling history (edit->preferences->privacy and un-tick
the top 2 boxes) seems to fix all ff-related performance problems - but
of course, you lose a large part of the functionality of the "awesome
bar", so it's up to each user to decide if the trade-off is worth it.

Bug description:
The screen goes black when having firefox 3 do heavy stuff like scrolling fast. 
Guessing because of compiz. Swap is enabled.
