New question #47524 on Ubuntu Eee:
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu-eee/+question/47524

I have just installed Ubuntu Eee (8.04.1) on my Eee 1000. I had a lot of
problems getting the wireless connection to work and was surprised that this
hasn't been mentioned on the site more frequently.

Eventually, after trying most of the things in this article:

http://www.ubuntu-eee.com/wiki/index.php5?title=Getting_the_network_drivers_working_on_the_901

I got the wireless working by using the ndiswrapper solution using the
rt2860.inf driver.

Note: I've read a few articles/posts and I've found a lot of missing
information and assumptions (like the one I've almost made here). Just to be
as complete as possible I would add that the wired connection on my Eee worked
fine under 8.04.1. This is how I managed to get the required ndiswrapper
packages installed.

I was really quite annoyed by the fact that I had to find a PC with Windows on
it so that I could get this file. It's just a straight forward text file. Why
isn't it just made available for download for people who don't have access to
Windows? I found it in a torrent, but there were 4 people trying to download
it and no seeders :-(

If there is no objection, I would be happy to post the file here to save others
the problems and messing about that I've had to go through. It is 1374 lines
long, so if someone can recommend the best way to post it I would be grateful.

Jim.
